Recently took my '95 Coupe to a local exhaust shop the have the mufflers removed instead of purchasing muffler eliminators and doing the job myself.  So glad I made that choice, as the owner of the shop apparently enjoys performance vehicles and decided to do the job himself.  The end result is so perfect that someone not into Corvettes would never know that anything had been done at all, except that the the tips are now lined up better than they were from the factory.
I was advised that there may be some difficulty at Pennsylvania State Inspection time, as some shops read the regulations about mufflers differently from others, but upon checking, I discovered that the regulations concerning mufflers are written so vaguely, that finding a shop to inspect the vehicle would be no problem.
As to noise;  outside sounds just great;  inside is obviously louder (would not want it any louder), but acceptable (after all, the only thing quieting down the exhaust noise is now the large "resonator" up front.
The view from the rear of the car is now very "clean" as the eye is not distracted by those huge factory mufflers.
The cost of this was $75.00 plus sales tax - well worth it.

I guted the cat on my red 85 and used those pipes and yes they RUMBLE   right along with the 4 loud tickets I got from the highway patrol in O-H-I-O the I used a flowmaster 50  3 inch in  & 2  2 1/2 out and its awsome  now the black 85 has pacesetter mufflers and a ballance tube and its nice and mellow till you smash the loud pedal
