My Air-Pump is noisy and I thought instead of repairing it wouldn't it be swell to just remove the pump and all the hardware, clean up the engine compartment.. I live in Phoenix AZ and have to be emission tested, my question is the pump only works during startup so at operating temperature it shouldn't make a difference in exhaust readings...but...I am not sure if all smog equipment has to be installed on the car or if they only go by the exhaust sensor. Does anybody out there have experience with this scenario?

as far as i know, if the car has to go through inspection with emissions, then all the parts have to be there. here in jersey, they would flunk you immediately if they caught it. on cars that are registered antique there is no inspection so it does not matter. just another thought here...removing the pump and blocking off the ports might upset the computer settings unless it could be reprogrammed. dont know that for sure. sometimes if the car is running good with it, it might be better to replace the pump or you might be opening a can of worms. just my opinion.
