I have a 1986 Convertible Corvette with a bad smell in the interior. I believe it maybe antifreeze...heater core maybe.  Is the heater core difficult to replace and is there a video some where on how to replace it?

Thanks

God help you. Remove the passenger seat (makes a living hell a little easier) remove the under dash cover, the computer, if I remember correctly I had to remove the bread box, remove heater ducts, a heater control cable, and I believe parts of the heater box. You will need to put your hands on blocks of ice to shrink them to accomplish the task. I believe I and to use tape in sockets to hold hex head screws in place while I slide the extensions into dark recesses. IT is doable but a bitch.

One of the challenges is access to the top bolt of the tubular brace that needs to come out.   I used my 13 mm box/end wrench, with my 1/2" extension on my 1/2" ratchet to get at the 13 mm hex bolt, like this:

Sounds like this will be a monster job to do. I guess the shop will charge you an arm and a leg to do. So I just plan on this being a long excruciating project to do. Thanks I appreciate any advice!

Not happy about doing this. But...as you said it is doable. Thanks for the heads up!

Just reading about this job makes me shutter but I do not have the talent to repair much on my car.  I was wondering can the entire heating core be eliminated and run the car by passing the input and out put to the core. I realize this shows my lack of technical knowledge but would this work just curious?

I did manage to remove door panels and replace the top panels they look great and I did not screw up anything!!!     Take care.

People have by-passed heater cores forever.
Question is; can you live without the heating features.
