Vette(s): 1996 Chevrolet Corvette convertible 6 speed manual, LT4 engine, f45 Selective ride control, Torch Red exterior, Torch Red and Black interior, full documentation with museum delivery option, and with just slightly over 5,000 original miles.
Hi everyone! i was wondering if someone would know where to get or the GM part# for the black paint that is on the mufflers and exhaust tips on the 1996 corvette. A friend of mine has one and is starting to get peeling on the tips but wants to keep it as original as possible and use the correct paint. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i can't seem to find it. Thanks!!!!

i would think that any high temp black paint would do the trick. don't know if there was a special paint from gm for it.

I agree with eddie20890-----i used a self etching primer and BBQ grill paint on stainless Magnaflow exhaust (i didn't like the "bling" from undereath) leaving just the tips stainless. That's held up well for close to 3 years. When I was through the color looked very close to the OEM flat black IMO.
You might try "Eastwood.com" online they specialize in restoration paints and can be emailed or phoned w/questions.

I checked my NCRS judging manual for the finish on the mufflers (pg223) and it says "Original mufflers have black out paint on the end and lower half. Original mufflers have the muffler part number ,10143518 and date code embossed in the lower part of the muffler body. An example date code is 0265. This is a julian date and represents the 26th day of 1995. Deductions should be based upon the degree of deviation from original configuration. All muffler rear panels and exhaust tips are painted a black-matt finish." Type of paint is not specified. I'm repainting mine with a high temp flat black paint of any type I can find. Dave
