I need to replace the tires on my '86 Coupe.  I am finding that purchasing 255/50 R16 tires is almost an impossibility.
The tire recommended is BF Goodrich g-force sports, which have been backordered for months.  It is doubtful they are even going to be produced.  I have stock wheels and I would rather not switch to 17 inch.  What am I going to do other than put the Corvette up on blocks and just look at it until I die?

I feel your pain.....I have a bone stock '88 that I'm getting ready for NCRS top-flight judging....I too have the "standard" 16" wheels...I have yet to find a Goodyear 16" replacement...I doubt they still even manufacture the size...just not enough need for them. I ended up with Kumro ectas on all 4 corners...I kind of wish the NCRS would address this because it is a point dection for not having originals but you can't buy original replacement tires and I'm not about to buy "used" tires off e-bay that are 24 yrs old.

I see that Kumro tires for our Corvettes come in the 225 size.  Is that what you have on your 1988?  Were you able to get Kumro in 255/60 size?

Have you tried a Michelin dealer? I just received a brochure from Michelin listing tires for 84-87 in 16" - P255/50VR16

Tried going to Discount Tire Direct? I recently totaled my '85 Corvette but I've replaced my tires through them with the Falken Tires. They have great traction on both dry and wet roads and for me they were quiet and a really good tire plus they are Z rated. I do miss my '85 but my '96 is VERY nice. Discount Tire Direct does not have Falken tire for the '96 so I'll go with what's on my car now again, Nitto's. Try 'em, you'll like 'em.

Silver:  I did go to Discount Tire Direct and ordered my P255/50 Z 16 tires.  Since it is winter up here in Minnesota, and my '86 is up on jack stands, I have not had a chance to see how they ride.  The tire dealer who installed them on the wheels said Falken makes a good tire but several years ago, he would not have recommended them. They are now considered a pretty good manufacturer.
I got the same recommendation you gave me from an NCRS member.
Thanks

Yep. Goodyear no longer produces any 16" 255/50-16 tire. So much for "OEM manufacturer tire" for NCRS Judging. "Non-oem" is 75% originality deduction . 18 points for 4 road tires. If they're the wrong size as well, that's 100% originality AND condition. That's 48 points.

Sucks to have 16" wheels and be trying to prep a car for NCRS Flight Judging. A: Glad I'm done with my campaign. B: Glad I picked Gatorbacks for my car in 1991 when they needed replacement.
