Rebuilding

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum and am currently rebuilding the engine in my 1985 corvette! The engine is completely removed from the car along with the transmission(the project started as simply adding a new clutch) anyone have any ideas on what to do to the car? While the engine is out I might as well try to add a little horsepower. Currently the heads have already been gone through. Any more ideas? Thanks!

Don't know your budget, miles or level of expertise. All make a difference. Things to do if your engine is out:You could do some port matching on intake and heads. Do some reading and you can do it yourself with a dremel and the right attachments. Might want to add a cam, lot easier to do with engine out. If you do a cam, might want to upgrade springs if you have lots of miles. Consider roller rockers and new lifters.  Headers should also make a difference. All the above should add some HP that you can feel SOTP.  Again, not knowing what you want to spend or what you can do makes all these suggestions just a guideline.  Think your plan through based on your budget.  Have fun, nothing better than doing upgrades on your own and then enjoying the fruits of your labor.

Ok, so budget i would say is around $1000. We have had the heads gone through completely, also have a performance timing chain, oil pump, gaskets, clutch. We are currently contemplating a cam and lifters and maybe roller rockers. what do you guys think of those? Also what brands would you suggest for them?

Three General Principals in order of bang for the buck.

1)      Maximize the “Air Pump” volumes  - i.e. flow head, match ports, improve exhaust.

2)      Reduce internal friction – i.e. roller rockers, blueprinting tolerances.

3)      Lighten rotational mass – lighten internal engine components (best left to the pros)
