Where is your most favorite place you've driven your Corvette?

I actually have three:

  1. "Tail of the Dragon." During the 2006 C3VR Member Gathering. Was the most fun and scariest ride I've ever done!
  2. Pocono Raceway.  I was able to drive my Vette on the quarter-track there during a driving course.
  3. Atlantic City Expressway.  During a "Kerbeck Corvettes Toys For Tots" run, back in the days when the Corvettes participating would all gathering at a rest stop along the Expressway, then would all depart at the same time with NJ State Police blocking traffic to allow us all out.  They also looked the other way as many Vettes tested the limits of their rides!  Me in my '79, I could only get to about 85 before it felt like it would fall apart!

Sometimes on a Sunday in the summer, I'll take a ride in Amish country near Lancaster, PA. Cruising the open, winding roads with the top down makes for an enjoyable day out. I love it when the young Amish kids stop working and watch as I drive by. :-)

SOLD - "The Toy" - '70 Convertible
SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)
SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
SOLD - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am
"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe

SOOO many fabulous treks were made in "The Beast".  It was THE most capable road trippin' car I have had the pleasure to own.  Probably the most fun trek was to the 2012 C3VR Member's Gathering held in Charleston, SC.  Good friend Wally and I drove our C4s from Minnesota and had a blast.  The highlight of our 2nd day on the road was a stop was at "The Brickyard" for a tour of the museum.

The third day on the road was probably the most fun I've had while on public roads.  If you have not experienced "The Tail of the Dragon" (US 129) as mentioned above all I can say is - DO IT...!!!  It was my 2nd run on it (1st time was in "The Toy") and the handling and power of the ZR-1 made the drive a BLAST...!!!  That was in the morning.  The afternoon was spent snaking through the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina.  NC 281 between Tuckasgee and Lake Toxaway was even more fun than the "Tail" if you can believe that...!!!  What a day...!!!

After the Gathering was over Wally headed back to Minnesota and my wife flew into Charleston.  From there we went up the eastern seaboard to Boston to attend our son-in-law's graduation from graduate school.  We stuck as close to the coast as we could taking multiple ferry boats and staying overnight on the Outer Banks one night.

From Boston we rocketed back home to Minnesota.

I live on a peninsula.  The other (land) side of the bay is twisty.  Depending on the traffic levels, it can get interesting over there.  It's just a 40 minute drive away.

  1. Tail of the Dragon, of course - numerous times, never gets old, easily a day's drive for us.
  2. The Three Sisters, aka the Twisted Sisters, Farm Roads 335, 336 and 337 in Texas Hill Country - 100 mile loop. Think Tail of the Dragon, but with pretty good elevation changes. You could get airborne, if you dare.
  3. Talladega Speedway - track and museum, stopped in during the Corvette Caravan headed to Bowling Green. Made 10 laps around the track, restricted to 105 mph.
