no not "finished" ...going to try for a Regional Top-flight this summer...then that will probably be it.I don't live anywhere near where the National NCRS conventions and judging would be held, so it will be $$ and time prohibitive... thanks for the encouragement....I realize it is not something for everyone but i do love the fact that it is 25 model years old and still an excellent representaion of how GM rolled it off the assembly line.

I can unnerstand the not being able to afford, either time or money-wise, to make the National convention. If the 2001 National hadn't been in Texas, I would have never had the chance to take my '74 for flight judging at that level.
I agree...the NCRS/Bloomington route ain't for everyone. My '85 will never be presented for judging...just not worth it to me. I have the '74 with a National Top Flight award, numerous Regional and Chapter TF awards, and that's good enough for me. I have no desire to go thru all of the headaches, late nights, and $$$ with the '85 I did with the '74.
Again, congrats on your achievement!

...just follow the guidelines in the judging guide, a 1984 with 17,000 miles is a rare find for sure! just make sure it is clean, presentable. The judges will look for date stamps, date codes etc...so if your vehicle is that original (as is mine) you should have no problem. Have you lowered the spare tire tub? if not make sure you do so you are familiar with its operation. you will need to have the tub lowered and spare removed, jack and jack handle out...when I lowered mine I found date -marks inside the tub from the assembly process....make sure all your light-bulbs work, your wipers clean streak-free...horn works, anti-theft system (if equipped) works...believe me they DO check for the correct screws that mount the license tag on the vehicle...what worked for me was I down-loaded a set of judging sheets from the NCRS web-site and had a friend go thru the car in a mock judging. It helped alot...I came within .4 of what my score actually came in from actual judging....most importantly.....HAVE FUN and learn!
as a side -note to the used tires and battery....I do not have the original tires and battery in mine....I was not willing to purchase used tires that may or may not be dry-rot (safety issue)...remember you would be possibly buying almost 30 year-old rubber.....and as for the battery...well lets just say there has been some controversy regarding what is ethical and what is not...I chose to buy a GM-replacement battery and received the points for original manufacturer but receieved a deduction for originality. (pretty standard)...plus the fact that $$$ vs point dectuction also may factor in your decision as to buying tires....I won't boast but my car scored exceptionally well with neither......so if you have a strong car you will do fine!
