I just need someone to read the diagnostic code in my 94 to find out why it shut down, while on the road. The local dealerships are WAY too expensive. On the oposite extreme every guy running his independent shop says "Sure I can fix it...." when they don't even know where to look to hook up their greasy scanner. Any recommendations?????

You can pull the codes yourself, if you want. Then post what you find here, and we'll try to help point you in the right direction to diagnose the problem.

Just use a paper clip, or short piece of wire, and jumper the two terminals together. Then turn the key on. On the '94, I'm not sure if it will display codes in the DIC(Driver information center) or not, but the "Check Engine" light should flash anyway. Count the number of flashes. Example: A code 22 would be two flashes, a pause, then two quick flashes.
Code 12 is one flash, then two quick flashes.
See what comes up, and post here. We'll try to help...and maybe save you some $$$ in the process.

just a quick addition to what joel said.when you jump the two terminals and turn the key on, the first code should be 12. that is the computer checking itself and if all is ok it shows a 12. of course you may use the old method of checking why the car died. is it getting spark and gas? sometimes using the computer may be harder than one might expect.

joe, best thing to do is start a separate thread and give us some history of the problem you are having. maybe there is something one of us can tell you that may help you out.
