Alright guys,

This past Sunday it was so nice I took the Targa top off my '96 and hit the road. I noticed a strange vibration in the steering wheel. After doing some research I found that this is supposedly common in the C4 models. My question is, will the rear hatch attachment to raise it, alleviate this issue or does it require the  after market Targa braces, "X" braces, etc.....

Thank you all in advance !!!

"Cowl Shake" is the technical term for what you experienced, and it is VERY common on open topped C4s. Raising the rear hatch with one of those attachments will not help at all, and in fact may make it worse. The convertibles have an "X" brace bolted to the underside of the chassis to help with this problem but it doesn't alleviate it completely....but it definitely does help lessen some of the shake.
There was someone here a few months ago that had one of those braces for sale, too. Don't know if they still have it. It should be in the "For Sale" forum. The brace will bolt on to a coupe, especially the newer ones, as they have all of the attachment holes already in place.

Here's the brace that was for sale
