Most PROM chips really only effect the fuel and ignition settings at WOT. Some may also change the cooling fan operating parameters. I have a Hypertech prom in the '85, and have used them in other vehicles, too.
Are they worth the $$$ ??  Depends on what you expect it to do, 'cause they really don't do much until you're at full throttle.

Some chips do nothing more than increase timing and temp. settings.
Make sure to read the the paper-work good, it will probably state to run premium grade fuel only (if you dont already)...and make sure its high quality fuel.

Good Luck,
Jim
