Got a question my transmission in my 96 C4 I'm guessing lost third or fourth third and fourth gear pack and I'm currently in the process of changing out the transmission in my 16 Silverado cuz you know electronic Transmissions are just a cat's ass not in my opinion is there any interchangeable Transmissions that will work for the vet and is there anything specific that I need to know about or need to find out about the transmission that's in the Corvette right now and I'm probably not asking the questions the right way I'm just kind of beside myself having one transmission go out and then 3 weeks later the transmission in the Corvette go out and since I don't have access to a lift is there a forum on here that will tell me how to properly Jack my Corvette up high enough to get a transmission out of it if I'm not following proper procedures please forgive me I don't get on the computer a lot and I'm not on a computer now I'm on my phone I don't own a computer I don't want a computer in my opinion the fall of our society but that was my dad's Corvette before he passed away and I desperately want it fixed I found it a month and a half after my mom got rid of it and my boss and I went out for a ride found it at a dealership took it for a drive one last time got it back to the dealership and my boss bought it for me so I want to do my dad and my boss right I feel really close to my dad when I drive the vette, I swear I can smell his cologne and I really miss him

Your '96 will have a 4L60E transmission. The 3-4 clutches burning out is THE most common issue with them, as it was with the earlier 700R4 trans, which is basically the exact same trans without the electronics of the 4L60E. When the 3-4 clutches burn out, it will neutralize when it shifts out of 2nd gear. The same clutches are applied for both 3rd and 4th, so if they make a doo-doo, you loose both gear ratios. If you are just wanting to find a used trans to install it will HAVE to be from a Corvette....unless you plan on tearing them both down and changing the 2-4 servo assembly, output shaft, and tailhousing. These items are Corvette specific.

If you do a search here on this forum for jacking info you will find what you need to safely jack it up. If your car is a convertible...I'm so sorry....😟 Convertibles have an "X" brace bolted under the car to add structural stability to the chassis, and they are a pits to take off and re-install.....and it WILL have to come off to remove the trans.
