The 3.07 ratio is fine. That's what my '85 has, and it was the optional "Performance Ratio"! The 3.07 was standard for the standard trans cars, but optional on the automatics. The standard ratio on automatics was 2.73, I think. Not 100% sure....

Both of my 85s left the factory with 3:07 dana 44 rear end gears now on my red car I have just got the center section back from Pro-Car in akron chuck had refreshed it with a set of 3:73 gears
that car has a TKO-500 tremic trans and the 3:07 were great for freeway driving above 120 mph I will keep you posted when I get it back on the road but its SNOWING here dammit I cant wait to put another shelby in the rearview mirror

The 3:08 is a great gear for all around performance. It has good excelleration and gas mileage . If you want the top end speed stay with the ratio. If you want to get off the line good but loose top end speed go with a numerically higher gear like 3:55 or higher. One thing to remember, numerically higher numbers give good launches, lower top end speed and less mileage. Numerically lower gears give you a slower launch, higher top end speed and better mileage. It all depends on what you want.
