hey everyone

i ran into an issue and not really sure what was happening - thought it might be the t/v-detent cable but i am not really familiar with that

while in overdrive and 4th - (1985 4 + 3) - went to accelerate and it felt like the rpms went up and the speed delayed - OD maybe intermittantly came out and it seemed to rev and speed up proportionately which then made me think there might be an issue with the od
- i had just changed fluid about month or 2 ago and i did not notice anything then - i also just changed the clutch hydraulics MC, line and slave cylinder - seemed to be ok until this

anyone have any thoughts on such a thing? - 1985 with a 4 + 3

thanks for any ideas thoughts possibilities

Not sure I'm understanding your description of the issue. Does it seem to "slip" when in O/D.
If you cancel O/D does the issue happen?
The cable is basically a "kickdown" cable that forces it out of O/D with heavy throttle. If the cable adjustment is loose, it can cause the o/d clutches to burn, and eventually cause slippage, due to ther trans not having enough pressure during kick-down to hold the clutches properly. You might want to have that o/d fluid checked again, to make sure it is full, and not burning.
To adjust the cable, push in on the adjustment tab on the cable where it passes thru the bracket. While holding the tab down, pull the outter cable back toward the firewall as far as it will go, then release the adjustment tab. Then floor the throttle from inside the car. The TV cable will self adjust from there.

thanks so much for the description - I am not sure i am explaining it the best - but yes - i was driving on the freeway once and through some curves another time - was not terribly fast which is what though me off - i was accelerating - at another point, i did leave the OD off and it seemed fine through acceleration - and to be honest i was not sure what was happening so i have not driven it since to make sure I did not damage something.
would clutch slippage feel like that as well - I have never had that before so I would be unfamiliar with that? - maybe I will give it another run today without using OD and see what happens
I hate missing driving in all these nice days -

thank you again

ok - so went for a drive - seemed ok without OD being used - on the highway - engaged OD at about 65 (little higher than usual but i was not sure I was going to use it at all) - after driving a while - decided to try to punch it while in OD and it did not come out and go - used to kick down drop ass and run - not today - so am on on the right track thinking it is the cable ? or is something else lurking beneath the surface.....

thanks for any ad all help you can give

Full throttle should definitely kick it out of O/D. I would certainly take a look at the cable adjustment.
