i had a member of the ncrs tell me that the early 84 c4 base coupe with out the z51 package that had the 8.5 rims . the manufacture was running out of the 8.5 that where shipped to the factory. so gm decided to put on the 9.5 on the rear on the early 84 production . until the manufacture got up with demand. perhaps this why my 84 has the 9.5 on the rear. he also told me that these rims where not put on the build sheet. my production date is 3/26/83 i have the 3,571 made. has anyone heard of this or is this member blowing smoke up my a hole.

Check this website out. After reading a couple of your posts regarding early wheel sizes I remembered a site I found that steps through the different sizes and styles over the years.
For '84 they do list a Z51 package having 8.5 in front and 9.5 in the back!

So, even though your is not a Z51 I'd bet that the factory did get by any shortage by putting 9.5 rears on yours. Totally possible.
