Bought a 96 with a LT-4 engine and as we are going through everything, the distributor vacuum lines are not connected.  Getting deeper into it, am wondering which line connects to air intake and which one connects to engine vent.  Thinking the smaller distributor line closer to the block is the intake line.  Wondering the effect of not having it hooked up and any pointers on where to get hose kits and tricks to reconnecting without taking everything off.  Thanks!

just a question here...are you sure there is supposed to be vacuum lines going to the distributor? on my 90 the computer and sensors control the advance on it. if i come across a diagram i will let you know.

I understand the two lines are to keep the LT-1/LT-4 distributers dry and was a change from the eirlier C-4s.  I found the distributer vacuum harness  on-line from the GM Parts Center, Part number 12558921, Cheverlot has discontinued providing the part.  It is a beast to get to when the distributer is on the car.

There is a vacuum line going to the dist to try to keep the moisture down, Along with the vacuum, there is another line going up to the throttle body/air intake. This line is to allow fresh air into the dist, while the vac pulls it thru. The idea is to keep fresh clean air circulating thru the dist to keep it dry. Moisture and Opti-Spark do NOT mix well!
I'm not sure it would make any difference at all which line went where...I'll see if I can pull up a diagram...

As far as the vac harness, you might try "thepartsladi" on e-bay. They have TONS of discontinued, NOS GM parts, and they go by part numbers. Since you have the GM #, they should be able totell ya pretty quick if they have it or not. Sometimes, they will also offer to help search for stuff they don't have. It's worth a crap. I know they do sell quite a few Opti-Spark distributors....

Embarrassed I did not know that...I had heard they were a great place to get NOS parts from. They've never had anything I was looking for, tho.Ouch

The vacuum line for the dist comes from the rear area of the intake plenum. Then the vent line from the dist goes up to the air cleaner housing somewhere. The diagram I have is not very detailed.
