C'mon in, best brake pad debate

Wondering what members think the best brake pad, by brand name, is for our C4's.  OEM? Aftermarket?  Inquiring minds want to know    About to replace my ORIGNAL  front pads, 38K miles.  Not bad, considering some of the panic stops I've made over the years jimmymack2009-05-21 09:38:00

I've always felt the OE pad material was fine for stock set-ups, even for "spirited" driving. Of course, hard driving will wear them just as bad as any other brand.
Performance Friction is about the best you can get for just about any type of driving, IMHO.

Thanks, I'm now looking hard at them.  I agree that OEM is probably fine but wanted to get feedback.  Still entertaining opinions, recommendations.

IMHO is that any brake pad that stops the car is the best.

no favorite brand here, i just make sure that they are from a company that has been around. don't want to risk it for an off the wall brand that i never heard of.

Thanks for the input guys.  Got a lot of feedback from some others also, went with the HAWK Ceramic.  Just ordered from the Corvette Guys (supporting vendor, who's actually local to me).  Prices were right and free shipping.  Looks like I will be attending the Church of the Corvette in my garage replacing them on Sunday.  I love the smell of brake cleaner in the morning.

I've heard a lot about the Hawk brand friction. Let us know how you like them once they get bedded in.

I put the Hawk Ceramics on my 35th for dust control and they work well at that but more pedal  effort is needed for high speed maneuvering. Since I don't race they work for me for daily use.

Installed the HAWK ceramic pads, bedded in, they seem to be pretty good, firm grip, noticed a difference on hard stop from about 40mph.  Really spent extra time cleaning both sides of rotors (which were well in spec for run in), sanded them with 120 grit on a orbital sander and cleaned again (soap and water, then brake cleaner).  Greased everything up with some NAPA brake lubricant, installed new pins and circlips.  Did a fluid change (I really do love speed bleeders).  Another thing off the list.  Now I need to drain tranny and replace filter, then move ro anti-freeze drain and flush.  Did I mention how much I like working on the car

I used Performance Friction Carbon Metallic on my '84. Awesome pads, and they do not fade with hard driving, or going down steep hills or in heavy traffic.
