I'm getting ready to put new pads on the front of my 84. Besides OEM, I see Hawk has a set at a reasonable price. I'm not looking for race quality, just best all-purpose. Any recommendations?
Also, I think stopping requires more pedal pressure than I'm used to. There's no fade or mushiness. How do you know if the brake assist needs replacement? Fluid levels are fine.

i went to the local auto supply and picked up pads. no real preference as long as they stop the car
. ceramic pads my require more pressure so i have been told. have you bled the brakes? also what happened to me is that the back brake calipers were not working and got lucky and freed them up. see if you can feel if all the brakes are working when you stop. usually if the fronts are working the front of car will dip when you step on brake. it may be easier to have someone watch the rears on gravel to see if tires are stopping unless you can feel it while driving it.

I used Performance Friction Carbon metallic on all of my cars, including my '84 Vette. They are awesome. Superior stopping power and no fade. I bought them at AutoZone a few years ago. Not sure if they still carry them. Also, check Advance, cause they are running a sale right now where if you spend $100, you get a coupon good for $50 off a future purchase of $100
