I have a 1986 C4, Z51, with 17" wheels from a 93. I am running 275/40-17 BFG-R1 tires for SCCA time trials/hillclimbs. I have no issues with it, but did get the Corvette specific 1" spacers from EZAccessories for it. These are billet aluminum, and hub centered just like the wheels - so a good tight fit. Once bolted on - you then have the studs from the spacer to bolt the wheels on - so it isn't like the spacers from the autoparts store that just lay over your existing studs.
I have another friend competing with 315s on similar wheels using these spacers and they work fine on his as well. Several thousand competition miles on both cars with no issues. http://www.ezaccessory.com/Hub_Centric_Wheel_Adapter_5_Lug_4_75_Corvette_p/5475-5475hv.htm
C3: 1979 Corvette Coupe, Auto, L-48, Red/Doeskin (my wife's fave);
C4s: 1986 C4 coupe (SCCA road race car), satin black, 4+3, Z51 package, L-98; & 1993 C4 coupe, white, 6-speed, LT-1.

I have 275 on front and 315 on rear. Front showing some wear. These Nuttos seem a little twitchy (alignment is good). One Z06 owner tells me that Michelins made a huge difference. But they are also three times the price of almost anything else.
