Evidently 88 vettes can have 16 "x8.5" wheels but do not fit 85 vette. What is difference?

32 MM offset for the 85 16X8.5 and 50 MM offset for the 88 16X8.5. But they will bolt on, and should clear the brakes on non-Z51 88's.
The suspension and brakes change quite a bit between 84-87 and 88-up. The wheel offsets are different to accommodate the changes without changes to the bodywork. The 88-up is superior to the 87-down in braking and handling. 17" wheels and tires make an even greater difference. If you've owned and driven both genres for a period of time like I have you'd agree with me.

Thanks for info. I will use chrome version of the stock 85 wheel to dress our black 85. Thanks again. Byron
