Weatherstripping on a 96 c4

  Hi folks, flandy here, has anyone replaced the door weatherstrips on a late model c4?  If so, how hard is this to accomplish?  Thanks in advance, flandy54

Hi Phil.  I am guessing that it cannot be any harder than my C3 (1981).  How do you like your 1996?

You talkin about the door weather strips, or the wipers for the door glass(window)?
Either is not too much of a chore. Patience, and some 3M weatherstrip glue will serve you well.

If you are talking about the W/S that seals the rearward portion of the window (on chassis), its very easy...I think a couple of screws and black glue.
If you are talking about the W/S that seals the top of the window (on targa top), it is a PITA.

No matter what W/S you are replacing, have a can of "Trim Paint" and touch up all your trim pieces, wiper blades, ect.... (it is not the same as regular flat black)

In my old thread I was going to post pictures, but a sensor in my camera had died and made most pics so red nothing could be identified....
..and I had took my time and plenty of step by step pics.

  Hi Dan, I Love my 96, the lt4 with the 6 speed is a blast to drive.  I have a 68 427 car that I really love, my 1st Vette, but the C-4 is a marvelouse ride.  My wife Heidi and I drove her down from WI. to GA., and got 25.5 mpg, very comfy and it tracked like a slot-car, any other ?'s give me a call at 414-491-8023.  Regards-Phil aka flandy54.

Where do you get black trim paint?

Most any of the Corvette Parts vendors carry the "correct" black trim paint. The trim pieces will need to be super clean for the paint to stick to it, so a little soap/water/dry time is needed.

I just had the weatherstripping re[placed on my 84, along with the door belt trim, and had new door lock switches and  door hush panels installed.  The classic glass shop charged 4.5 hours labor.  I was allowed to buy my own supplies, but he recommended SOFFSEAL.  The job came out great.  I don't believe I could have done the work in the time he did. 

www.CorvetteMagazine.com has an online archived article with pictures of how to replace the strips on the inside+outside rubber strips that sit on top of the door, at the bottom of the side windows.  Navigate to technical-articles/c4 and look for it (or send me an email and I'll email you a PDF of the article).  You have to remove the door panels and drill out the rivets from the old strips and pop rivet the new ones into place, which is not hard, at least so it seems, but does take some know-how and the article can give you the know-how so you'll know how to do it!
