Unidentified Aftermarket Item

I recently took off the trim panel on the driver's side to replace my turn signal flasher, I discovered this disc shaped device (some sort of sounding or chiming devise?) which looks like it was an after-market item added by a previous owner due to the electrical connectors and extra length of tangled wire. (see attached picture) If anyone has any ideas or suggestions as to what this is, please respond to this forum.

I ain't got a clue...is there only the one wire going to it? Might possibly some part of an alarm system...possibly a motion detector?

I have a question for you , How hard is it  to replace that  Turn signal relay?  &  what panel(s) would I have to take off of my 88' to get there ?  I have to manually  blink my  turn signals .....

The one wire has two wires inside of it.  One is connected to a ground and the other is connected to an aftermarket relay.  I will see if I can trace what the relay is connected to this afternoon.

Mine is a 95 and the directions I used are from the 1995 Corvette service manual (see attached picture).  I don't know if your 88 is exactly the same or not.  I had to take off the left hand carpet covered trim panel below the steering wheel, which has two screws on the top edge, three screws on the bottom edge and two T-15 torx screws on the left side.  I think the other screws are 7mm but I was able to use a 9/32" socket on them.  To get the trim panel completely out of the way, you also have to remove the courtesy lamp electrical connector and the DLC assembly mounting screw.  Now you have to become a real contortionist and get your head back under the instrument panel and you will find the flasher connected with a spring connector on the way left side (right side when looking up from the bottom).  Grab on to it and pull it out of the spring connector and the wires will be long enough for you to disconnect it and replace with a new one.  I installed new LED tail lights from Mid-America Motorworks and the flasher in the Vette (a Wagner 323) wouldn't flash.  Mid-America tech suggested I replace it with a standard 552 flasher and everything works great.  (I think the original flasher had been replaced with a lighter duty model.)  Now this afternoon I have to go out and put the trim panel back, as it got to dark for me to finish last night.  After I bought my used 1995 Corvette, one of the first things I purchased was a used set of 1995 GM Service manuals for it on eBay.  Best thing I ever did for working on it.  Good luck on yours!

You are welcome, any time!  I always buy the official service manuals for any vehicle I plan to keep.  They are invaluable when you try to work on them yourself.  I found used service manuals for my 95 Vette on eBay.  I also bought service manuals for my 1990 K-Blazer too.
