Hi everyone. My Targa Top is lifting & seperating from the frame @ 60mph or more. It lifts about 1/2" or more. It looks like they tried to use a tar based windshield sealer @ one time & probably torqed the front two holding bolts too much to cause separation. Thinking that tight is good, & more tight is better. So, I need help to solve this issue with the PROPER SEALANT that needs to be applied between the frame & the glass. I am planning on removing the glass from the frame completely, cleaning up both surfaces as should be, applying the recommended sealant, clamping both parts together in a half dozen areas, & let cure for 48 hours. If you have better ideas or procedures PLEASE CHIME IN, & the name brand & particulars on the product you recommend. Thanks in advance. Mine is an 86 Red On Red coupe with 62k by the way.

I would recommend looking into a top from Thompsons Astro tops. http://www.astrotops.com
I know it is not repairing the old, but I have one and it fits like original equipment and seals perfectly. The cost is extremely reasonable also. If you don't want to buy one I am sure they can tell you exactly how to repair the one you have.

Or - you could contact John at Coastal Corvette in Mims, Fl. at 321-269-4995 and he can fix you right up with either a good used top or a new one. He's very reasonable on his prices. Tell him that Michael from Ormond referred you.
