I have a 91 coupe with the L98 I just got it out from winter storage for a drive and I noticed SYS flashes where my instant average mileage is on my dash console. Can anyone tell me what it is? Thanks

after your ride, did you try restarting the car and did it come back on. have had my 90 flash that and as soon as i shut it off and restarted it was gone. i take it as it misread something and came on and then restarting reset it.
on my 90 and i am sure yours would be the same, when you put it in the diagnostic mode that where the codes show up. one of the categories is system but i can never seem to find any info on it. wonder if it is for dealers only.let us know if you find out anything.

A "SYS" message has to do with communication error, I believe.
Happens sometimes when they sit for a while, or if the battery voltage gets low.
To display CCM Fault Codes, select the Display Codes mode by pressing and holding down the "TRIP/ODO" button until "1.1" appears in the Trip Monitor area of the cluster. Then, press the "ENG/MET" button to display the first code. Continue pressing the "ENG/MET" button to display additional CCM codes, until the End-Of-Information indicator ("---") is displayed in the speedometer. A "C12" indicates no stored codes for the CCM.Adams' Apple 2011-03-03 06:05:20

Thanks for the forensic analysis. I will run the sequence today to see whats up. I will also keep this info with my repair manual which did not cover this. Vettcha Later.

Maybe you fixed it, maybe not...
Did you install an aftermarket radio?
Then you will also get a SYS warning.
That´s because the CCM doesn´t "see" the original radio anymore.
CCM is da "big brother" in your car.

I just had this issue with my 1993. CCM's almost NEVER need replaced. It is usually always the ECM. If the sys is flashing, there should be a code in there. Mine was unable to be cleared and car would not stay running. Once the ECM was replaced, it has been perfect!!! Problem is getting an ECM for a 1992/1993. GM is now remanufacturing ECM's to fit! I got one from the dealer and it is warranted for 2 years.
