my vette has and early prodution date 03/83.  the outer door seals are differant than anyouther one i have sean on any 84's i have the gm seals that are from gm dealer.  however mine are 1/4 inch longer.  they go past the window and end up at the end of the door. does anyone know about these seals are where i can get them .its weard but true. i have contacted all gm dealers and they say theres only one seal for 1984- 1996...well i bought them. however never installed them as of yet.  if a picture of the seal would help finding out any information i will send one out...i hope i made some since of this. please contact me about it.    thanks jonneyone

Early production cars like yours had a LOT of non-typical stuff on them, including the weatherstrips. The seals around the front, lower, inner fenderwell-to-hood are different, too, as are the inside door handles.
I'm not sure, but I think the weatherstrips you bought will fit and function fine...they'll just look different.

Outside shot but try contacting the NCRS.  They may have a source for you and would certainly tell you what the difference was on the seals.

Smile thank, i will do that. i just became a member. i called the bolwing green factory with the org. part numbers for the seals. they told me that the manufactor of the seals was not any longer doing biss... with gm.  also they said that with the low produdtion number they only used these seals up to 4,000.00 prodution number. this is when they made the change.  also they said the weather seals on my car had a real bad problem tearing becaues they where longer. i have the part number for these seals 14069659Lh. and 14069660 rh.  however they wouldn't give me the manufacters name. go figgure.  i will contact nrca about this perhaps they know about it or they can help finding them..in the mean time i will use the updated ones.i don't realy want to drill a hole on the inside door. but i don't have much of a chiose as of now.

Can I ask what the steps are to replace the outer door seals? How are they held in place? Rivets? I assume you have to take off the inner door panel, and drill the rivets out? I am also going to replace the weatherstripping this winter. Thanks for your time.

I don't know if all C4's are the same, but I can tell you how they were in my 96. The door Panel does need to be removed. The outer seal is held in place by spring clips and 3 large (1/8") pop rivets. You carefully drill out the center of the pop rivet and the head will stay on your drill bit and the tail will fall down inside the door. Then pull up on the old seal to remove it. The seals are side specific, so choose the correct new one to install Installing the new seal can be difficult as you have to force the spring clips over the door lip and line up the holes with the new seal and those in the door. Install new pop rivets and reinstall the door panel Hope this helps. Larry
