This morning out of the blue my "seat belt" red light came on the main dash, and also the red "INFl RES" light came on in the information center. I'm guessing my airbag won't work if needed (not that it would anyway as my 1990 is 23yrs old...) Anyone deal with this before and *cross fingers* easy fix?

I found some information about how to fix it. I don't how how easy it is, but it should be inexpensive if you can do this: http://www.corvetteforum.com/techtips/viewsubtopic.php?SubTopicID=46&TopicID=2

Thanks for the cool find - guess 1990 is the problem child for this eh? I'll have to see what I can do...

you can get used to the lights being on like i have until i get to fix mine. this is a common problem. in most cases you have to get the sensors off the frame (one on each side), clean the frame and the bottom of sensor, and apply a coating of dieselectric grease and reinstall. unless the sensor is bad which is usually not the case this is the fix. make sure you d/c connect the battery first. the one on the left side is behind the battery on the frame and the right side is even with it.
i thought, when i did mine, because the 90 only had one airbag that there was only one. haven't had a chance to do the right side yet.
not a hard job to do. good luck with it and if you need any other info let me know.

All right friends I finally got after this issue. With all I saw on this site and others about the passenger side sensor being the usual culprit I assumed that was also my issue. I tore apart that side, sanded the sensor and frame, used dielectric grease liberally, and reinstalled everything. It got late so I wasn't able to pull codes or reset the light. Next day I was able to get the codes to display and it flashed the 12 & '16.' So I was barking up the wrong tree. I went ahead and pulled apart the drivers side (much easier job!) and repeated the steps from passenger side. Got it all back together and was able after about 25 tries to get the computer to reset. (that was a real pain to do!) So it appears all is well as the light has stayed off. Good news is that both sensors now have a very thick dielectric grease coating so hopefully nipped future problems in the bud! Haven't had a chance yet to drive her around yet as winter is closing in, and local car wash shop had special on interior/exterior detailing so I couldn't pass that up! They actually flubbed and did a $99 super treatment on the paint of clay bar, polish, and wax thinking that was what I paid for so got that for free - that's a win-win!!! The paint looks and feels better then new. I have the cover on her for now to keep bird poo at bay.
Thanks again for everyone's help on this project!
