I thought my winkies, were over, when I got a C4.
Not true, so I see.
I have a partialy opening/closing head light.
When I turn them on, only Mr. Left, works the way it should.
Mr. Right, is a PITA. Only a half way movement. Wont close, all the way or open or all the way closed and it can't be pushed into position.
The motor, stops running, when it has stopped movement.

I just bought a gear set and the 3 pins.
I'll try that first.
Any hints as to doing it?
Thanks for your help.
BTW, this is a nice plce to get GOOD info.

When I bought my 90 the headlights had not been turned on in 20 years since the previous owner never took it out of the garage after dark. Soooo, I had to fix them both. It was a real pain in the Arse, I had to drive it all the way to my Chevy Service center and leave it with them for a couple days. WOW That was tough.... Good Luck! Wacko

Well that helps a lot.
I called them first and they told me to figure on at least $500.00.
Well now, just off the top of my head, I can't see how they can fix it for that little amount. LOL
When I asked if it was the motor or gear, they told me, they change both to be safe.
That's a good call, for them.
These are the same guys that didn't lube the car or change the filter, when they did the "complete package", fot $150.00.
I'll trust them.
I'll start tomorrow, blind, and work my way through it.
Wish me luck.

Actually that sounds about right... I was actually having a lot of work done at once, about $3000. dollars worth. but the lights were about $1200 worth to have them both completely rebuilt. But if tehy can't do a proper Lube, I don't think I would let them touch it Noooooo More.... Good Luck and let us know how it comes out.

If you do a search on here there is a "How To" article with pictures on redoing your lights.... I'll look for it for you too.

This is a good DIY project and requires a few basic tools (my opinion). Shortly after I bought my vette in '04 one of the lights started doing the same thing. I replaced the bushings on one side and a year later, the other side started failing.  When I opened up the casing/gear box, the old nylon bushing where completely ground down to dust particles. Both times it took about 6 hours to complete but was fun to see how it was all engineered.

Before fixing them myself, I took it to a local GM shop and they said it was the motors and gears, estimate was somewhere around 1,000 bucks. I fixed 'em for less than $20 and they work perfect now. From what you said in your earlier message, I sure wouldn't trust that shop!

as dave said it's a basically easy thing to do but does take time. the bushings usually come with directions that are pretty easy to follow. did mine when the car was being repaired from the accident. good luck and let us know how you made out.

If you didn't buy the replacement bronze gears, fagetaboutit! The cheap nylon gears that come stock are'nt worth the effort.
