Figured I post a few shots of the new head unit I just finished putting in my '92. It's the Alpine CDA-9887. Its replaced an old JVC unit that had been installed by the original owner. There wasn't anything really "wrong" with the JVC unit, but it was obviously a much older design and lacked many key features I'm interested in. It was also bright silver in color and stuck out like a sore thumb. On top of that, I couldn't stand the set-up of it's menu's, its lack of tuning options or its lack of ipod control. The 9887, on the other hand, aesthetically speaking, looks amazing, has a tonne of sound control/tuning options, (probably way more than I could ever hope to fully understand) and currently has the best ipod user interface of any head unit on the market.
Unfortunately, I wont be able to comment on it's functions/sound quality until I finish installing new speakers and running new speaker wire throughout the car.
Right now, there's nothing in the car besides the head unit, but I was anxious to see what it would look like and couldn't wait on installing the new speakers :D
Another nice feature of the 9887 is that it offers 5 different color combinations for the surrounding buttons which will help it "fit in" better with its surroundings. I think I'll be sticking with the orange/red combo since it matches the stock lighting in the car, but they all look really good regarless.
Sorry for the crappy quality of the pic's but I was in a rush and didn't have time to do take them properly. I'll get some better shots later on when I get home and can photograph them better :)
Flash: (Red/blue illumination on head unit)

Interior/Courtesy lights on (Red/Orange illumination)

Night time: (All blue illumination)

Night time: (All Red illumination)

Night time: (blue/Green illumination)
