I am trying to find a body shop to re-Align my doors, Top, and windows. So far I have checked every major collision repair shop in the area, and none of them work on these things. One shop is now recommending an individual that used to work for them and did all their Corvette work but retired last year and now only works on the side, out of his garage. While they HIGHLY recommend him, I am a little leary of going outside a reputable shop. Any thoughts?

thought you had everything taken care of when you had the problem with the interior and when you had the new weatherstripping put on.

they probably don't want to do it because it is a PITA and time consuming especially the windows. probably would do it if they had to repair a car. if they had a guy that retired and is doing it on the side, i would definately check him out. if he has that kind of experience, he probably will do a great job as now he has time to do it instead of having to just "get it done".

just one question....do you need all this done or is it that you think it should be done? sometimes trying to just make sure something is right can open a can of worms. is there any leaks present?
one thing i know from repairing mine when it got hit was that once you adjust one thing you may knock something else out of whack. that's where the old saying comes in..."if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

The doors are slightly (Very slightly) out of alignment at the rear of the doors, and the windows are really a hair too tight (Sometimes causes a problem with the passenger side going all the way up, by about 1/4 inch.) The OCD in me sees it everytime I get in and out of the car and while I thought I would be OK with it, now that everything else is done it just kind of jumps at me.

Also when I replaced the broken Interior roof panels it has caused an alignment problem with the roof. I am going to try and fix that myself, I have an idea of what needs to be done since it happened when I replaced the panel. But if I am not succesfull, I will need someplace that can handle it.

I am beginning to think I may be a bit too picky to own a 20+ year old car, but I have come this far with it, and have more invested than it is worth to anyone else but me, AND it is now darn near show room condition, I can't seem to stop till I get it there.

AUGGGGHHHHHH, IT'S AN ILLNESS AND I HAVE A TERMINAL CASE OF CORVETTE-REPAIRITIS......

Well, I spent the morning in the garage and the roof is now aligined properly. Learned another lesson "IF" you replace your interior roof panels, put the new panels in place, then replace the roof and tighten it into place. Then you can finish setting your interior roof panels and tightening them up. failure to do this can result in the roof and the panels having a slight overlap throwing your roof out of alignment.

sometimes thats how you have to repair things especially when you do the repairs yourself...trial and error.it can get to you but when it gets straightened out, it makes you feel great.

Vette(s): I have a 1996 Collector Edition coupe with the 6 speed/LT4 engine. Looks and runs like new. 203 coupes were exported to Canada for 1996 and of those, only 83 of them had the Z15 option.
I'd check out the guy the shop recommended. He has the experience, now has the time and they are putting their reputation on the line by recommending him. If he does poor work, their recommendation reputation suffers as a result. Worth a try anyway.

Give the guy a try Trooper.

Wow!  We really need a good Corvette repair shop in the Nashville area.  If I weren't so old I'd start one myself.  I just finished a carpet install on a friend's '88 convertible, now she wants me to address a carburetor problem on her '75.  Darn!  I thought that I was going to get that half of my garage back for my cars.  Since I bought the '94 convertible my wife has had to park her Altima in the driveway and she's not too happy about it.

Vette(s): 87 Red Coupe, not as pretty, had 213G miles, great running engine; got 20-21 around town, 27-28 on hwy; I got to drive a Vette, every day for 6 yrs. It was my first; so now I know what the fuss is all about. (Sold it 2015 for $3000, still ran great.)
As you can see, Trooper, a lot of fellow sickos were worried about you.  Glad you got the roof fixed.  Everyone's cheering you on to go and meet the retired Corvette fixer-up guy.  We all crave one of those and you might just have a wizard in your midst.  He probably knows the other Corvette guys in Tennessee, too, since he probably had to farm out or refer sick Vettes to fellow wizards.  Good luck on your hunt and let everyone know if you found a good one.
