Put new battery in a couple weeks ago. Out here in storm central, not sure if that has anything to do with it. It's an automatic. Turn key, nothing but a little click. Lights still come on and work, but does not turn or do anything, although acting like a dead battery would if the lights didn't work. Any help would be apprecaited. This is my only vehicle. Thanks

Welcome to C4VR, nice to have you aboard

Turn the key to on and check what your voltage readout is analog and digital. Has it been driven much since the battery install (e.g. worked fine yesterday, dead today)?

Analog is at the half hash mark, will check digital if need. Yep, have driven quite a bit since battery installed, and quite a bit yesterday. Drove it around running errands all day, parked in my driveway after getting candles (power outage - thanks storm), went back out to move my car, and nada.

12.2 Volts. People post alot about the VAT? My alarm is also inconsistant, if it triggered the safety feature would it click? Thank you

Voltage sounds about right at 12.2 with key in on position, mine reads about the same. Not sure if it's a VATS issue, but it sounds like it is. I assume you've tried your other key?

Hopefully someone with more experience on VATS will check in. Doing a bypass might be the answer to at least getting you back on the road. Search the net, there is even a site called vatssucks or something similar IIRC.
You mentioned a lot of storms, maybe you hit a few big puddles and fried the starter?Be the first to like this post

It could be VATS--I have a few questions----as"Jimmymack" said have you tried another Key on the chance it's not reading the resistor (black pellet) in the key??---does the "security" flash/blink while you're trying to start the car---and last this "click" you're hearing ---Is it inside the car or under the hood?? You may need two people to determine where the click is coming from. Post back up after you've checked these things--I'm trying to get the ole brain cells up and running and they need more info

If this is an intermittent problem, then I would go directly to the VATs system. Ther eis another thread with just about the exact same problem, and he posted the fix today...it was his VATs...

when you try to start your car does the head lights stay nice and bright? if so its the starter...may i sugest you try starting the car have someone look at the head lights to see if they go dim or stay bright. if they stay bright and don't go dim when hitting the ing swicth you need a starter .. good luck
