1996 Cruise control

Hellomembers,

 

I recently purchased a 96 C4 coupe with a/t. The cruise control is inoperative. I had the lever replaced but that didn't work. Nothing happens, no light on the dash. I took it to a "specialist" who did nothing but charge me $$ for a new lever. Does anyone know what can be done to have it become operational??
