Someone over on C4VR is considering a 82 CE and was curious if the rear window hatch makes a loud "bang" when it is released. Do any of you happen to know the answer? Let me know and I'll post it over on the C4VR thread.

Don't recall my buddy Pete's '82 CE (PJK82CE) making an unusually loud sound. It certainly wasn't any louder than the pop made when releasing the hatch on "The Beast".

Mine makes a loud pop every time it is opened. It is just the left/right hatch releasing the rear window.

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
Yes, they do that. I have replaced the hinges and the struts on my 82 Collector. The only issue with the rear window is that the factory hinges will deform with time, and you will not be able to open the back window.
About 10 years ago, I found a guy who built after-market hinges that matched the OEM exactly. His wife had an 82CE, which is why he did that. He would make about 12 sets a year, but only sold them to owners as he was not in the marketing business. I'm not sure he does that anymore. If someone is interested, I will attempt to search my records and find his email again.
I may have the only red 82CE on the road. But I always wanted a red Corvette. I also got tired of having to be so careful about running the front end into curbs, and installed front and rear cameras. They are mounted on the license plates, as I did not want to drill the body.
