X-pipe... h-pipe... what is it??

I'm working on my exhaust.... and may be sticking some hooker headers on. I want to keep my flowmaster 50's unless someone has any idea or reason why i should replace them. When i replace the headers, i want to go all out though. I here people talk about X and H pipe setups..., what are they?? What about true dual...., is it just an exhaust with no cat???? It still has mufflers though right?? Any place i can by x or h pipe setups for a decent price, and will they work with my existing mufflers.... tks!!

I can tell you what is meant by "true dual". On some years (I know mine had it) it wasn't "true dual" because there was a Y pipe after the manifold into a single pipe, through a cat, then just before the rear end another Y pipe to split it back to two pipes, two mufflers, two tailpipes.
"True Dual" means just that - two exhaust channels that never converge into a single pipe.
I'm only semi-familiar with the other terms your asking about so I'll leave that to someone who knows for sure to answer.

True duals means that there are 2 seperate exhaust pipes that go from the motor all the way to the back of the car with each haveing its own muffler. All Vettes before 1975. When the government required the use of cats, GM changed to a Y-pipe. The X-pipe is a pipe that looks like an X which connects to a true dual exhaust system that allows the pressure balance both sides to create low-end torque. The H-pipe does the same thing but less effient. Because exhaust pulses, the X or H pipe can reduce back pressure and make use of both mufflers reducing the noise a little.

So... let me know the truth then. With my current setup my 71 vette is cranking anywhere from 375-400.... and i still have the true duals with flowmaster 50's and dynomax headers. What would it be worth to install the hookers and an X pipe, and where can i buy this X pipe setup?? Tks

BrandonS...if ya have a eckler's catalog ..they sell x pipe , but not for c-3's.If ya just need to see what it is, try their website www.ecklers.com I just finished fabing my x pipe setup. The x design is maybe going to add 4-10 hp if your lucky. You well see incresed hp more in your header setup.

Oh.., my q' still is, will the dynomax, hedman, and flowmaster combo fit under the car? And should i buy the X pipe junction only, or the entire equalizer package that includes some of the piping. Thnx.
