I came across a good deal on a new heater core. Since I have owned my 73 since 1993 and the PO had it for 8 years without ever having any issues I do not know how old the one that is in there is.
So, should i plan on installing the new one or wait untill there is a problem? I bought all the seals a few years ago but never got around to putting them in either.

It depends on how much of a risk taker you are. It is a real pain to replace the core, and yours might last for many more years. On the other hand, there is the thought of coolant dripping on your carpet.
Either decision is right.
