Howdy After driving the vette, when I shut it down it leaks from the water pump. Obviously this is a bad water pump, but I was wondering if there would be anything else to this. All the temps are fine and she runs great so Im thinking that its getting water to the engine. Im gonna have to drive with this for at least a little while. Anyone see any unforseen probs here?
Thanx
Glenn

I think you don't have to worry about a circulation problem, I 've never seen a leaking water pump that didn't circulate the coolant. I've seen them leak so long there was a deposit on the housing of the pump coming from the weep hole, I've never had one turn into a gusher, but as they say, there is a first time for everything.

I agree. It's probably pumping just fine. The leak is from the shaft seal(s), more than likely, and running out of the "weep" hole. The bad news is, it ain't gonna get no better.
You may be otay for a while, yet. Just keep an eye on it.

Word to the wise - I have seen a WP bearing wipe on 2 occasions and the fan was spinning around like a hula hoop. No high RPM throttling recommended

Be careful

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

I have seen a weeper turn into a gusher.  I have no doubt it's working fine now, but it could fail anytime.  It's warning you now.   If you loosen the fan belt you could try to wobble the pump shaft and see if there is any play there.  If so, the bearing is failing and you will soon have a complete pump failure.  If there is no play, the will be.  The water in the weep area will attack the bearing.  I would not recommend anything other than short drives, and close to home.

It needs replaced.

you found it now, fix it now. It only takes a couple hours to fix. The piece of mind is priceless.

My water pump went about a month ago, and when it did, it was a gusher, thank god it happened in my friend's driveway and not on the road. You should have seen what it did to the belt! Destroyed it!

Good luck
