Hey Guys.....been chasing ghosts trying to get a smooth idle on a recent overhauled Q-jet (per Lars articles) only to now realize the air horn and main body top are very warped....[yea, yea, first thing I should have checked...I know]

Anyone have any luck with that unwarping tool that is advertised on the web?  If not, I will likely go with an Edelbrock Q-jet.

('72 350 with agressive cam)  only 15 hg of manifold vac. (10 hg in drive)

Thanks, Bill

Ive never tried one and not big fan of q-junks, so I would not do so.

i cant imagine it could be that big of a deal.. the aluminum is pretty flexible, but you woul dneed to recalibrate everything after the rebuild.

Stay away from Edelbrock Q-jet carbs.( As per conversation with Lars.)  They have "truck" metering rods in them, which will cause a lean condition under wide open throttle conditions. Also Edelbrock is out of the Q-jet business.

Last year I purchased a Stage 2 750 cfm Q-jet from www.smicarburetor.com Sean Murphy Induction. I had great results with this carb. Very decent guy to do business with.

Click on products, then Street Perf. then Rochester.

Just went through my 77 Quad. Lars papers made it a hole lot easier and helped me trouble shoot my stumbling off idle.

I've heard an occassional dump on Q jets.  I don't get it.  They are a really good carb.  They don't dump raw fuel on cornering.  I know a lot of guys are holley oriented, and that's ok.  But really, my experience, and some knowlegeable guys agree, the Q-jet's a sound carb.  Efficient when the back two are closed.  Capable when they are open.  Good in the turns and switchbacks.  Maybe the holley is great in the flat and straight.  Just my two cents.

I've got a Q-Jet on my 57 caddy 365ci (standard equipment for 300HP, the Biarritz had two!)  and once I put a seal kit through it (after all it is 49 Years old) I've had absolutely no problem with it at all.  I prefer my Edelbrock performer manifold with a Holley 600 (Vac Secondaries) on my Vette though.

The second carb on the Biarritz only increased the HP to 325 by the GM specs which I though was a bit bizzare.  Caddys of that era use tunnel ram manifolds and no PCV or environmental crap.  It's such a smooth running engine and damn near bullet proof.  It had an oil filter as an optional extra!  Normally just the sump strainer.  4 speed Hydramatic behind it pushes 3.5 ton of car along quite happily.

A lot of people think that Caddys have Chev engines but as soon as I open the hood they are quite amazed with the difference.

The Q-Jet is a really good carb when set up correctly.

I have never used the straightener to fix a warp.  I am curious.
