My airconditiong has stopped working. I was told that there is a product out there call Freeze R12 whick will work in any unit without replaceing the compressor and seals. the said the reason it quit was a safty switch , when coolent is  low it will not allow the compressor to come on. R12 is hard to find and this Freeze R12 is suppose to work. Any one ever tryed it and how did or dose it work

I manage 600 police cehicles in my real job. We expermented with the Freeze12 on some of the older R12 cars. It worked but never seemed to cool as well. At the vents it was generally 5-10 degrees warmer than the R12 cars.

If the pressure switch is shutting off power to the compressor you do have low pressure, indicating a leak in the system. Contrary to popular belief freon does not decay or go bad. If I had to replace a hose,seals, or o-rings to repair the leak I would go ahead and convert to 134a. It is relativlely inexpensive. the main thing is to get the system purged and evacuated of all air and moisture. If any mositure is left in the system it will never cool properly no matter how much freon is in it. Hope this helps!

Change the whole system with one made by Hot Rod Air.  You will be very happy and very cold.  You will chase leaks forever in your old a/c system.  See HotRodAir.com

I agree with Ranger3 on the Freeze12. I've used it, and was never satisfied with the results, either. I talked to a 'tech' at the place that makes the stuff, and was told, "Sure, it just drops right in, no changes, uses the same lubricant, is compatible with the seals & hoses,.....". I bought a case of it to use in my '74, if I ever needed it, but decided against it, because it didn't work very well in the other vehicles I used it in.
I know that when I do have to charge the system in the '74, after I deplete the small supply of R12 I have now, I will be going with the 134. It doesn't cool as well as R12, either, but it's the best solution for the problem and the 'Vette is small enough that it will cool it just fine. My 2c.

The snifer found two places where mine was leaking.   One was a craked hose going to the core and the other from the thread of the canister.  I just now have to find time to fix.

 I've been on the job for 11 years now, and I can honestly say that in any of the junkers that the Dept. gives us to drive, the air was NEVER fixed.

Man, do I miss the 1995 LT-1 Caprices.

I converted my R12 system over to R134a last summer. Had it done a
local Chevrolet dealer and they did a good job. Total cost was around
$150.00 for everything. Which inluded the conversion kit, evacuating the
system, and recharge. For me its been cooling just fine and haven't really
noticed a difference between it and the R12 that was in there before.
Anyways, its been a year and so far so good

Ever have your propane bottle filled, and have you noticed when the attendant disconnects the valve that you sometimes have frost around the bottle valve, I've read that alot of these R-12 replacements contain propane........BOOM!!    Don't know what year the gentlemans vette is, I'am not sure but corvette didn't have a safety switch I believe till 71anips38587.8988773148
