replacement filter bag for fuel pickup tube?

Vette(s): 70 big block 4-speed covertible, 78 w/TPI conversion.
The fabric filter on the pickup tube in my gas tank crumbled in my hands when I pulled it out to clean the tank. What can I use to replace it? I have no intention of buying a new pickup assembly. |confusing|

You don't have to buy the whole assembely. Just get the pick up filter, or sometimes called the sock. I haven't checked around, but I'm sure they are available. If not, you can likely get a similar functional one at AutoZone or NAPA.

NAPA didn't have it, but my old dependable independent parts store had the genuine GM part. Seven bucks and change...
