Probably been brought up before 73 with big block 454 and AC. Do I have to remove the hood to take out the radiator? I've heard people saying yes and no. If I really don't need to, I'd prefer not to do that. If it's necessary, then I'll take it off first.

"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe

I've not done it, but from what I've read about the process it is much easier to do with the hood off. If you go that route, be sure to mark where the hood lines up with the hinges to make getting it back in the same spot easier. And having at least one extra set of hands helps a bunch too.

Hello, I have removed, replaced and repaired the unit multiple times. My "opinion", and experience is to take the hood off. The radiator shroud is not necessary, if other things are removed. Fan,belt drive, and possible water pump would help. To make things work in a less stressful time, "I" loosened to top four bolts of the radiator support, removed them and only left the two bottom ones in. They pretty much support the entire front end. Just tilt the radiator support forward, and raise the radiator straight up. The upper control arm bolts can create a problem getting the radiator fan shroud out. Take your time, think it through, and you will be successful!

I've had the radiator out of my '75 a number of times. I could never get it past the shroud (the lower hose fitting could not pass the shroud), and could not get the shroud out before (or with) the radiator.
I ended up removing the radiator, shroud, and the whole core support as a unit.
When I went with electric fans, I ended up cutting the shroud to get it out.
I always removed the hood as well.
