Vette(s): 1981, Black/Black, Engine bumped to about 400HP.Ext/int mostly stock.

This winter I'll be removing the engine & tranny for rebuilds and while I have a fairly open engine compartment, I'll replace the noisy heater fan/motor.  While I have the while heater-A/C box removed, is there ary way to remove the heater core from the engine side of the firewall, or can it only be removed from the dash side?

Thanks!

Not sure about the 81, but for earlier C3's you have to take out from the passenger side dash.

I agree. I believe it comes out from the inside. If you want to have it recored let me know. I do it for a living ( radiator shop). That way it will have original tanks. Cost around $150.00 plus ship. Terry

Go the rebuild route. I had alot of trouble finding the correct replacement for my 72. They are made poorly and the fit is even worse on the ones I bought and sent back.

I actually put the original one back in....it fits perfect...

OK, you have an 81, it indeed comes out from the dash side but it is not that difficult.  Center dash comes out rather easily.  Lower the steering column to get the left dash out-oh yes, it is much easier if you take the steering wheel off.  With the center dash, the left dash and the glove compartment out, the dash has only five screws, two in eash side which can only be taken out with the doors open and one holding the center defrost vent.  Be very careful to not booger the extreme left or right of the dash for it is old and may crack and break.  I recommend that you take out the entire heat/air and install a Hot Rod Air system.  They can hook theirs up to your controls and it will for ever more blow cold.  Only difference is that the glove compartment goes away.  Who cares, I don't ride in there anyway.  I just did all of the above to an 82 and it works great.  Good luck.
