Vette(s): "86", "89", and finally an "81" Red/Tan. I call her "Sweet Pea".
Good Evening Folks;
My Air pump belt (81 Vette)has been disconnected by the PO. One of the tubes on the passenger side has been crimped and folded over, down by the exhaust manifold. I'm considering change-out of the system. I've noticed that many pictures I have seen of C3's have the unit removed. What do I plug the holes in the exhaust manifold with? Or do you have to weld them. Also I'm including a URL for a picture of my smog pump...merly a test to see if I've done this picture adding thing correctly. Would someone let me know if it works..
Thanks
Fred

Your link didn't work, but all you need to use to plug the holes are brass fittings. The tapped holes are NPT(PIPE THREAD). THEY WON'T SIEZE AS BADLY AS A STEEL FITTING.

If it has a cast-iron manifold you can use the brass plugs if you can get the old ones out. I thought 81 had a "header"? I am using stock C4 TPI "headers" on mine. I took the AIR tubes, cut them off, and welded them back shut. Looks very nice.

Yeppers...your right....it does have headers |cussing|
I'm going to dry and get the "check valves" off and cap the tube with something that has the same thread. I've sprayed them with stuff to loosen the threads...I hope they come off |cool|

Use a little heat on the check valve(s) to help in getting it loose from the tubes.
Or have the tubes cut off and weld up the holes for a cleaner look.
