I saw Something about R406 freon being a direct
replacement fot R12 freon. Does anyone know about

There are several threads where the many replacements for R-12 have been discussed. My take on all of them is - if your system is older and functioning, stay with the R-12 as that is what your system was designed to use.

3 vehicles in the family fleet have A/C, the newest is a '94. When R-12 was available in the little cans at the parts stores I used to hookup the D-I-Y kit and top them off every spring. Now I have it done at the garage as part of the spring tune-up. No muss - no fuss.

You have to be careful with these "substitutes". R-12 isn't as expensive as everyone thought, you just have to get a professional to charge it. And that is the biggest problem with the substitues, when you do bring it to a professional, they purge your freon out, and the mixture contaminates their tank. Many of the substitues don't work that well, anyway. There are good websites out there on auto air conditioning, do a web search. Joe

There is no direct replacement for r-12....! you half to retrofit your system usly with 134a change the dryer lines and seals the oils in the different refergrents are not commpatable .If any one tells you to just drop it in it will work but expect trouble latter.
