I just redid the rear cam bearing in my BB to fix a top end oiling problem..

I filled up the engine with water yesterday to fire it up and test for leaks before adding "proper" coolant.

This is the method I use to fill and burp..

1 fill engine through thermostat housing
2 fill radiator through upper radiator hose
3 fill expansion tank half way
4 idle car until thermostat opens
5 run for five more minutes refilling expansion tank as needed
6 turn car off, let it cool
7 refill expansion tank if necessary.

does anyone have a better procedure ???

There are other methods, but the final run, cool, refill is still the final step. Your way will work fine.

Drill an 1/8" hole in the thermostat. This lets the air
in the engine escape while you are filling the cooling
system and you don't have to wait for the thermostat
to open.
