Car is up and running. YEA ME!!!!! Rebuilt original L82 seems to run good but I cant tell alot with just open headers. Going in for new exhaust Monday and I don't have a clue about Mufflers. I don't want a loud car, just a nice classy rumble. Any suggestions for muffler selection would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I put Magnaflow mufflers on my '71 a year or so ago. They have a good deep sound, not too loud. They do sound off when you get on it though. I wouldn't mind if they were a little louder. I tried Flowmaster 40 series first, but they were too loud, but my engine was running like crap at the time and made it sound even worse. You'd probably like the Magnaflows.

And, congrats on getting up and running.

I know the voices aren't real, but they have some pretty cool ideas...

Can't help much since I've got sidepipes, but the classic is the Flowmaster. Magnaflows are nice and some of the sites have the sound of the pipes on line. I can't remember if Jeggs or Summit does, but I do konw there are sites out there that have links to the muffler sounds.

I had the same experience as Longhorn. Flowmasters were too loud for me, the magnaflows sound nice & healthy on mine.

I got Magnaflow's on mine too and I think they sound great. Not too loud, but you know its a Vette when you hear it go by.

I have Flowmaster series 40 and they are a wee loud
but sound great. Thinking about adding a crossover next spring to mellow it out a little.

I think there is an old thread where the discussion got pretty longwinded. I'll see if I can find it, but it might be a while. You might try to see if you can find it. It had some really good info and opinions on it.
Seems like part of the discussion was side pipes vs regular exhaust and cats on vs cats off.

I personally prefer to be a bit louder, But I think I like the sound of the Magnaflow 40's. I am thinkin or goin to that when I do the swap in a year or so.

I also have the Flowmasters. Like them a lot.
Just have to turn up the radio a bit, but sometimes that rumbling is the music I want to hear!!!
