Previous owner had installed 2 coolant reservoir tanks. 1 Expansion tank and 1 Plastic tank like in 1974 vettes to catch all the coolant being released from the expansion tank go figure!! I have removed the plastic tank and now need to address the loss of coolant coming from the expansion tank. Anyone have experience in this type of problem??

I think the pressure cap on the expansion tank will be replaced although it looks like new. I would appreciate any further insight anyone might have . 1972 ,454 ,4spd , convert.

The only thing that comes to mind is even though the pressure cap on the expansion tank looks new, it may be the wrong pressure (or bad). I think it should be about a 15 lb. cap. It could a 7 lb. cap or defective, allowing the coolant out of the tank before it's necessary.

BTW - your two babies are close to mine! A '78 Silver Anniversary and a gold big block 4-speed convertible! You have excellent taste!

i thought the cure for this drainage was just to run a hose down to let it drain on the ground ...

might not be good if you have pets though..

expansion tank cars had a nipple on the radiator to dump the expansion excess back in the system..  the reason he probably installed the bottle was that he did not get the correct BB radiator and decided to "engineer" a fix

If they are small leaks, and the radiator is in fairly good shape, you may want to take it to a radiator repair shop.  They can clean it out and repair it.  If it's not worth it, they will tell you.  This repair usually turns out very well.

to get a correct radiator..  or one in the correct style with better cooling then you should goto dewitts..  he seems to be the defacto expert in corvette radiators.

I realize this post is old, but I thought I'd let you know I own a radiator shop in Michigan. If there's anything I can do to help you can e-mail me. Terry  fpopper@netpenny.net
