Your car may have two lines from the gas tank to the engine. One would be a return line and the rubber could be bad and causing a leak if the tank is overfilled.

I had a friend named David Stover from NW Iowa. Any chance you're the same person?

Mark

Hello-

I had a similar problem with my '76 L82. I had to drop the tank & the "tortoise shell" protective cover to fix the problem. Like the last reply, it turned out to be that the rubber lines that run between the sending unit & the stationary lines on the frame rail had rotted & needed to be replaced. Five dollars worth of parts and a little bit of labor later, I was back on the road.

On a positive note... you get to see if your tank sticker is there...

You did'nt say what year your car is.
78-up cars have a plastic bladder in the tank to
prevent rear end collision fires (too bad pinto and mustang designers did'nt think of this-it would have saved countless lives!) I got my 78 cheap because it
had a pinhole leak in the return line ($3 fix) that
everyone thought was a tank leak.

i had the same problem. small leak that was hard to find. wound up being a tiny pin hole where the tank sits on the support and the felt was worn out causing it. i pulled the tank and relinded it with por-15. never leaked again. i know replacement tanks are available but i'm trying to keep all the orgional stuff i can.

Seems to me that there was a thread a while back that discussed an updated headlight conversion. Don't remember though if it was in the 'Body' or 'Electrical' forum. However I do remember that it wasn't an inexpensive swap (over $500).
