I have seen cars with the correct fuel line bent a little to fit under the crossmember. Make sure you fasten it securely so you don't rub through it. As far as raising the body, it is the same amount of work to lift it far enough to get the line in as it is to take it off. You need to disconnect everything either way. You need to raise the body at least 18" to get the line in.
