Installed an electric radiator fan today

Last fall a friend gave me a brand new Spal 13" fan. He bought it for a 32 Ford project car that he was building and decided it wasn't big enough. Anyway, I finally got around to installing it on my 73 today. I made some brackets and attached them to the fan shroud because I did not want to use the plastic things that go through the radiator, last time I did that the wore a hole in the tubes. The metal brackets hold the fan about a 1/4" away from the fins. I set it up so I can turn them on with a toggle switch and so they come on automatically if I turn on the AC. The relay kit came with a thermostat but I did not see a reason to use it because the car runs in the 180*'s most of the time and the fan would never come on. I really don't have a problem with over heating unless I am stuck in stop-and-go traffic on 90*+ days with the AC on anyway. Then it will get close to 220*. http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/My%20Vette/?action=view&am p;current=GEDC0772.jpg http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/My%20Vette/?action=view&am p;current=GEDC0775.jpg http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc149/Redwingvette/My%20Vette/?action=view&am p;current=GEDC0770.jpg |

Why is the original fan still there?

It is only a 13" fan and would not be enough for me to pull the fan off the motor. So far it is helping out when the AC is on. I will be giving it the full test when I head to Bowling Green, Ky for Labor Day.

Some day I may opt for the dual fans setup and go without the motor fan.
