Well it's a good thing I did not try to drive ol'blue to PF. I drove it yesterday and the daughter came in the house to tell me there is " green gook" running out of the garage into the driveway. Yep, I think the rad let go......one of the few pieces I did not replace myself...it was fairly new when I bought the car a while back, AND I had it pressure tested before it went back in.

I can not tell where the leak is, but none of the obvious places, or easy fixes are apparent. I think it's in the core under the air cond condensor......

So, where's the best place to get a replacement...need just a plain ol' brass SB type.

Mostly you can get them with our sponsers here or the major companies.    I replaced mine last year and got it from Mid America.    I try to get the bigger items I need close by so the shipping will not kill my account.

Good Luck in your radiator replacement.

You can get a new one through most of the Vette supply houses, or you can get yours re-cored. It may cost a good bit less but check with a good radiator shop. Ask for a price on a new core with more cooling fins per inch. It will be more efficient and the same depth as the current core...plus you know it will fit back in with no problems. Compare the costs and decide which way you want to go.

Try the radiator barn, the have a web site and the prices are real right. I got mine from them and it seems to be a well made unit.

I just replaced my 76 about a month ago. It cost 156.00 from a radiator shop in town. No problem. Just call around for the best price. Your local shop should have or can order you one.

Bruce,

That's a bummer!!  I got mine from Advanced Auto for $180.00. It seems to be well built.

Now you know how I felt when the leaf spring broke the night before the PF trip.  But somehow I had a strange sense of relief it didn't happen on the road.  Looks like you made a good call!!

I still have not got the leaf spring completely off yet, been real busy since PF. I'm shooting to be ready for Mid Americas Funfest in September.

Good luck on the radiator!!

Hey Mel, great to hear from you. Yeah, I was hoping all the bugs were out of the re-assembly, but obviously I do not drive it enough to get enough miles on it to bring out all the new problems.

It's going to be a while to get the radiator out, the boss has me in St. Louis for two weeks straight and no time to work on cars. Besides, the radiator let go in the Tahoe last week, so I've got two to replace now.

I am praying that this problem does not come in threes.....

My time has been limited too.  Not sure when I'll get back to it.  I teach HVAC at the local University and classes start up again next week....along with my real job, I don't have much time to work on cars either..

Hope your problems stop at 2 radiators!!  Have fun in St. Louis !!
