Hooker sidepipes too big for my engine?

OK, as I continue to refine my engine components for this winter's rebuild project, I'm currently zeroing in on...  350 short-block w/ flat-top pistons, Summit Vortec Heads, Lunati 60102 cam and Performer intake.  So, I'm not after ETs at the drag-strip, just good power from 1500-5500 RPM for street use.  Here's my dilema:  I really like the look of Hooker sidepipes on a C-3, so I was planning to install a set that were Jet-Hot coated, with heat shields that are also Jet-Hot, plus the Spiral Turbo baffles.  Problem is that the Hookers only come (to my knowledge) with 1-7/8" primary tubes, whereas every small block engine builder recommends 1-5/8" for the street.  I asked a guy at Summit's Tech Support, if the large headers would have a small impact to low-end and midrange performance or a big impact and he strongly recommended that I NOT go with the sidepipes.  Bummer!  I was wondering what some of the engine experts here thought.  Opinions?  Alternatives?  I've thought about Patriot sidepipes, but I hate that they "fake" the 4-into-1 look, plus I don't think they sell headers specially designed for the pipse, so you have to put a 180 degree turn in the exhaust to connect regular headers to them...
